Join us on the front lawn for a night of Moth-style true personal stories. Celebrated local storytellers tell personal stories beneath the grand columns of the NCHM porch.
The theme is Happy! Think unbridled joy—landing the dream job, winning the talent show, or bowling a perfect game. The quest for your soul mate or for the perfect cup of coffee. The Midas touch. The good old days. Tales of finding happiness or letting it slip through your fingers.
Our friends from Still Austin Whiskey Co will be on site serving their delicious cocktails. Coming by car? The Neill-Cochran House Museum features free parking behind the museum for attendees.
Cost: $15 for nonmembers, $10 for students. All proceeds support the Neill-Cochran House Museum.
MEET THE STORYTELLERS:
JEFF KNIGHT
Jeff Knight is an Austin storyteller and writer. He’s told stories at the Bulb Story Slam, Listen to Your Mother, and YMCA Adventure Guides, has won quite a few poetry slams, and used to write songs for an educational media company. “Mesopotamian Rap” was a pretty big hit with a number of fifth graders. By day, he writes training materials for big tech companies. You can find more of his work at Jeffsnextpage.com or on his YouTube channel, also titled Jeffsnextpage.
Nettier Reynolds
Nettie Reynolds is a playwright, performer and storyteller in Austin, TX. She was a hospice/hospital chaplain for 7 years. Now, she happily teaches third grade.
Kelly Rotach
Kelly Roatch moved to Austin by way of Colorado. She became interested in storytelling after reading Sapiens and learning how humans are the storytelling animal.
When Kelly is not telling stories she enjoys volunteering, mentoring at risk youth, hiking, and camping.
Aaron Salinas
Aaron Salinas is Texas native with a love of brisket, Selena and a good hug. He is an award winning actor, writer and director and is new to this whole story telling thing. However he comes from a long line of story tellers, you have probably bumped into one or two of them at your local cookout or watering hole all throughout South Texas. If he’s not in a show or on the Over The Lege podcast he’s probably figuring something out in the kitchen and would love if you came over for dinner.
Ellen Sweets
Ellen Sweets is an author and former reporter for the Dallas Morning News, the Denver Post, and the St Louis Post-Dispatch; and she's a freelance writer who has appeared in the Austin-American Statesman, the Texas Observer, the Texas Tribune, and Edible Austin. She's also the author of Stirring It Up with Molly Irvins, and a James Beard Award winner for her food writing.
Now retired, she spends her time writing, telling stories, and revolutionizing.
Susan Mack (Emcee)
A regular on the Austin storytelling performance scene, Susan Mack has more than 20 years experience with corporate and personal storytelling. She's currently pursuing her MFA with Vermont College of Fine Arts.
