No Matter how far we may wander, Texas lingers with us, coloring our perceptions of the world.
— Elmer Kelton, Texas Western Fiction Author
On August 1, 1966, the inconceivable happened. Just prior to noon that day, Charles Whitman opened fire from the top of the UT Tower, ultimately killing 14 people and wounding 31 others. This was one of the first mass shootings in the United States.
Elizabeth Crook takes the events of that day as her catalyst in Monday, Monday, a novel that follows three students on campus that day through the shooting, its aftermath, and the years that followed.
Join us in person on March 25th at 10:30AM to discuss Monday, Monday, with lunch following the conversation. For those unable to join us in person, we will have a zoom conversation on the afternoon of March 27th at 2:00PM.
Wonder what we have been reading? Take a peek, and then join us at our next meeting!
