Join artists and scholars Ginger Geyer and Mark Smith in a conversation about Cassandra James and the impact of her legacy. Geyer and Smith, who were friends and colleagues of Ms. James, will talk about the artist’s interests throughout her career and, in particular, about the technique she developed to produce her signature cloudscapes.

About the Speakers
Ginger Geyer
Austin artist Ginger Geyer grew up in Springdale, Arkansas, attended the University of Arkansas and earned BFA and MFA degrees in painting and art history from SMU. She also has a lay degree from the Seminary of the Southwest in pastoral ministry. Formerly an art museum professional (Dallas Museum of Art and Kimbell Art Museum), she occasionally consults on collection management and architecture. For 15 years she directed artist workshops and curated the gallery for the H.E. Butt Foundation retreat center, Laity Lodge. Mark Smith
Mark Smith is a visual artist with a varied career that has included fine arts administration and teaching at Southwestern University, University of Texas at Austin, and Herron School of Art & Design at Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis.
He co-founded Flatbed Press, in Austin, Texas, and co-authored Flatbed Press at 25, published by University of Texas Press in 2016, and is the author of several other books about 20th century and contemporary American art.
