*SOLD OUT *
STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT WORKSHOP!

Carol Aaron returns with a three-hour encaustic painting class where you will learn to paint safely with a molten combination of beeswax, damar resin, and powdered pigments. You will blend colors, build textures, fuse with a heat gun, and use various tools for scraping and incising. At the end of the class, you’ll leave with an archival 6 x 6” painting that you created, and the skills to make more!

Encaustic painting, the ancient art of using molten beeswax and pigments, offers a versatile and rewarding artistic experience. In this one-day workshop, suitable for beginners and enthusiasts alike, you will:

  • Discover the fundamentals of encaustic techniques and tools.

  • Learn how to safely work with heated wax and pigments.

  • Experiment with layering, fusing, and mark-making methods.

  • Create your own one-of-a-kind encaustic artwork to take home.

All materials are included: high quality, sustainably sourced wood panels, filtered beeswax, powdered pigments, and pre-made encaustic paints that you can purchase locally. This introductory class doesn't require any artistic skill. All you need is a desire to be creative and an appreciation for textured art.

This event will take place outdoors in the NCHM Centennial Courtyard.

About the Instructor:

Carol Aaron has been painting in encaustics for sixteen years and teaching workshops for the last eleven. She began her art career working in acrylics, photography and metal but threw that all out the window when she saw an encaustic demo in 2008 at Jerry’s Artarama here in Austin.

After that she has worked exclusively in the medium and has had her paintings in galleries and shows from Baltimore to the Bay Area.
