Encaustic Painting 201
A Three-Hour Introduction to Encaustic Painting
with Instructor Carol Aaron
Saturday, Apr 15, 2023 | 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
$125 Individual Ticket
This Class is limited to 8 participants. There’s One Ticket Left!
Back by popular demand, Carol Aaron returns with this three-hour encaustic class where you'll learn to paint safely with a molten combination of beeswax, damar resin, and powdered pigments. You’ll blend colors, build textures, fuse with a heat gun, and use various tools for scraping and incising. At the end of the class, you’ll leave with an archival 6 x 6” painting that you created, and the skills to make more!
For attendees of the previous workshop, Encaustic Painting 201 introduces new techniques but it totally accessable to all, even if you have never painted with encaustics before!
All materials are included: high quality, sustainably sourced wood panels, filtered beeswax, powdered pigments, and pre-made encaustic paints that you can purchase locally. This introductory class doesn't require any artistic skill. All you need is a desire to be creative and an appreciation for textured art.
This event will take place outdoors in the NCHM Centennial Courtyard. The hot plates will help keep us warm but please dress accordingly.
About the Instructor:
Carol Aaron has been painting in encaustics for fourteen years and teaching workshops for the last nine. She began her art career working in acrylics, photography and metal but threw that all out the window when she saw an encaustic demo in 2008 at Jerry’s Artarama here in Austin.
After that she has worked exclusively in the medium and has had her paintings in galleries and shows from Baltimore to the Bay Area.
