Coal Scuttle, c. Late 19th Century

Brass, helmet-shaped coal scuttle with roundish base and handle on back. Though the NCHM fireplaces originally burned wood, they were closed in during the late 19th century to burn coal, a more efficient fuel source. Gift of Mr. Robert W. McClendon, 1974.
